I am going to be very honest with you, 2017 was the first time I have ever heard of “Texture on the Runway”. As I was scrolling through twitter and instgram, I just kept seeing amazing hair everywhere, models walking and dancing on the runway; beautiful and healthy full hair everywhere and it was not just natural hair I saw, I saw many different styles: locs, braids, curls, kinks and coils and I was AMAZED. I kept saying YASSS!!! and OMGGGGG. My mind was snatched.

Texture on the runway first launched in 2012, its purpose was to celebrate the beauty of textured hair be it curly, kinky, coily, wavy, loced or braided. Michelle Breyer of naturallycurly.com (bless her) created/ started this event because when she came to cover New York Fashion week, she noticed the lack of diversity and was so not impressed. So she did something about it, she created “Texture on the Runway” and 5 years later am watching this amazing show and deliriously happy.
The 2017 “Textures on the Runway” was powered by Sally Beauty and hosted some hair-care brands such as: Cantu, CurlFormers, Carol’s Daughter, Crème of Nature, Mielle Organics and Shea Moiture that carter to textured hair.
I just want to give a big shout out to the amazing brands and people that represented black hair. A very massive big up to Natural curly and Sally Beauty for this event. From a black woman who loves her hair.
